Once the initial network configuration is completed, next step is confirm capture is operating correctly.
Step 1) Confirm Disk status
After shipping and racking confirm the systems disks are configured correctly. Go to the dashboard disk status, all disks should be green as shown below.
NOTE: the number of disks shown depends on the hardware SKU. Example below shows 24xSSD system.
If the status is not Green and GOOD, contact support@fmad.io for further assistance.
Step 2) Confirm the capture link is up
Confirm at least 1 capture ports link is up on the main dashboard page.
Example shown below both cap0 and cap1 have a GREEN link UP status. The system requires at least 1 link to be in the UP state to capture data.
Any problems with the link status contact support@fmad.io for assistance
Step 3) Start a capture
Go to the Capture tab on the GUI
The page looks similar to below
Enter a capture name for a one time quick capture. In the example below “my_first_capture” was entered
Then click on the RED REC button to start a one time capture.
Example is shown below
The Capture Bytes/Packets and RMON1 statistics counters should be ticking over. How fast they increment depends on what kind of data is on the cap0,cap1, .. cap7 links.
Step 4) Stop the Capture
Click on the red STOP capture button, this will stop the capture.
Noticed the Capture Running is now FALSE, as shown below.
NOTE: There is no requirement to stop a capture to download it. This step is only to show how to stop a capture
Step 5) Download a PCAP
Go to the FILES tab as shown below
Example file list is shown below
Notice the Date and Time have been appended to the capture name.
To download the full capture click on the PCAP ICON on the left, as shown below.
Check the browser is not prohibiting the downloads or popups. Example below is a Chrome check if you really want to download the file.
Step 6) Download a 1 Minute Slice
The above Step 5) downloads the entire capture as a single PCAP. This may not be feasible due to the amount of data.
To download a 1minute slice, click on the capture name as shown below
This then shows all split options for the capture file, as shown below. Click on the 1min split option
This provides a list of capture split every 1 minute. Then select the 1minute time range of interest and click on the PCAP icon as shown below.
Step 7) Verify PCAP
Once the PCAP has been downloaded, verify the data looks correct using Wireshark or the PCAP viewer of choice.
