Replacement of the SSDs on the 20G Gen3 and 40G Gen3 requires the system to be unracked and chassis open, the following steps provide a guide on how to replace the Capture drives.
Step 1) Identify the replacement disk
Using the disk serial numbers on the WWW GUI, identify the serial number of the disk to be replaced.
In this example SSD3 is being replaced

Log the serial number
S5JXNS0NA05683E
For later reference
For drives which are missing in the GUI check the configuration file
/opt/fmadio/etc/disk.luaFor the serial number.
Step 2) Power down the system
Power down the system and prepare system to be unracked.
sudo poweroffStep 3) Replace the SSD
Depending on the SKU, the SSD may be on the top or bottom of the PCIe SSD card.

Idneifiy the correct SSD to be replaced using the serial number from Step 1)
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-12T19%3A48%3A22Z&se=2026-07-12T19%3A59%3A22Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=u0ZhlM4AimjZsiTX%2FjROdMase%2FkknoAg2Q0YH0ToPbw%3D)
Step 4) Rack and power on
Re-rack and power on the system
Step 5) Locate new SSD serial number
Using the command
devblk_info.luaRun the command and find the disk which has no mount point. Example is shown below
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-12T19%3A48%3A22Z&se=2026-07-12T19%3A59%3A22Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=u0ZhlM4AimjZsiTX%2FjROdMase%2FkknoAg2Q0YH0ToPbw%3D)
In this example the serial number
S5JXNS0NA05685H
Has no mount point after the serial number and is the new drive.
Step 6) update the SSD serial number
Edit the file
/opt/fmadio/etc/disk.luaLocate the serial number of the old SSD from Step 1)
Replace this serial number with the new just installed serial number.
Previous value with the old serial number

Updated with the new Serial number

Save the file
Step 7) Reboot the system
Reboot the system
sudo rebootStep 8) Confirm the disks are GOOD
Go back to the GUI and confirm all disks are GREEN for example below example
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-12T19%3A48%3A22Z&se=2026-07-12T19%3A59%3A22Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=u0ZhlM4AimjZsiTX%2FjROdMase%2FkknoAg2Q0YH0ToPbw%3D)
Step 9) Quick format the Storage
To ensure the system is in a clean state, a disk quick format is recommended.
This DELETES all data on the system
It is recommend (but not required) as some data may be in the SSD cache but not in the HDD resulting in an unclear state of the capture storage.
Run the quick format option in the web GUI
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-12T19%3A48%3A22Z&se=2026-07-12T19%3A59%3A22Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=u0ZhlM4AimjZsiTX%2FjROdMase%2FkknoAg2Q0YH0ToPbw%3D)
Step 10) Finished
After the system has finished the quick format (take 5-10minutes) confirm the capture is running correctly and PCAP files can be generated.
